What if you had to create an entire festival of balloon decorations? Thailand’s Balloon Festival held in June of 2009 put on quite a show. While you might not need to come up with a display this massive, you might be able to grab some interesting ideas from the concept.
What intrigues me is the use of color and the variety of balloon sizes to create the balloon sculptures. Not to mention the time that must go into planning such a great number of sculptures.
Large fish, giant pineapples, impressive dragons, and columns and rivers of balloons. It does make you wonder what you could use from this – on a much smaller scale – to decorate for a special event. Oh, sure, it might take some practice to create these larger items, but notice the use of the long, twisting balloons to create the pineapple stems?
How about using some green twisting balloons for the base of a balloon flower decoration? They’d resemble blades of grass and I think a bed of those pretty flowers with grass bases might make an interesting backdrop resembling a colorful, outdoor garden.
There is also a string of balloons running around the perimeter of the area. These are assembled using the technique for a balloon arch but balloon decorations don’t always have to be in the air. Layering balloons for your party – helium balloons on the celing, balloon centerpieces on the table, and balloon garland, flowers, or decorations at floor level – bring the whole theme together.
